Abstract
Iowa's transportation goal is to provide adequate, safe, and efficient transportation facilities and services for its citizens. To help achieve this goal, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has adopted a transportation policy for development and efficient use of highway transportation through improvement programs. These programs will attempt to equalize functional adequacy of roads and streets throughout Iowa. This report reviews the status of primary road extensions in Iowa's 15 major urban areas and recommends revisions in policy related to extension service. The primary road system provides high-level intercity, interregional and interstate highway transportation service.
