Abstract
During the last decade, participation in trail activities has increased tremendously. Bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing', and snowmobiling have all bi~come increasingly popular, both in Iowa and the nation. Demand for these activities has far outstripped the supply of public facilities. As a result many people use streets and highways for a portion of their trail activity.
