Abstract
A major goal in developing a good air transportation system is to provide safe, adequate and efficient facilities and services to those who will be using the system. In the past airport development was undertaken· mainly on the basis of local aviation needs. Today airport planning covers many aspects of aviation and these effects, including the social, economic and environmental impacts an airport and its use will have on the surrounding community, must be carefully weighed. The purpose of the airport development plan is, "To provide guidelines for future development of the airport which will satisfy aviation demand and be compatible with the environment, community development and other modes of transportation."
