Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to present a brief look at some of the forces that are at work in American society. This is done in an attempt to set the stage for the consideration of appropriate educational delivery systems to meet the needs, in large part created by these forces. The first section will provide a look at some of the national forces affecting education and the second section will detail some of the forces affecting education within the state of Iowa.
