Abstract

This article explains how the Iowa College for the Blind was established first in Iowa City in 1853 and relocated to Vinton, Iowa in 1862. Samuel Bacon was instrumental in starting the school and persuading the Iowa General Assembly to pass a law to establish and fund it. The article is followed by another one entitled History and Contract of the Hospital at Clarinda which was first opened in 1888.
