Abstract
With nearly seven billion tons of coal, Iowa is destined to contribute significantly toward our national goal of energy independence. During recent research conducted by the Iowa Geological Survey, it became apparent that there was no single comprehensive reference dealing with the many aspects of coal and the geology of the coal-bearing Pennsylvanian rocks. To offset this deficit, have compiled a bibliography which includes historic and recent theses, dissertations, manuscripts, and other literature on every aspect of Pennsylvanian geology, coal, and coal mining in Iowa. This bibliography should serve as a starting point for numerous research efforts.
