Abstract

The Iowa DOT currently estimates the cost of ABC construction as 10% more than the cost of a normal, detoured bridge project, per chapter 3 of the Iowa Bridge Design Manual (OBS 2017). While the cost of ABC materials has been investigated more extensively and can be linked to overall project durations, there is little relevant data available to speak into the relationship of cost and time in compressed traditional projects. The scope of work proposed here will document the construction of a bridge constructed under a compressed time schedule. This documentation will serve the Bridges and Structures Bureau evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of utilizing compressed schedules.
