Abstract

Keokuk, Iowa is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in the extreme southeastern corner of the state. Hamilton, Illinois is directly across the river from Keokuk. U.S. Highway 136 connects the two cities, traveling over the Keokuk Municipal Bridge. The proposed action is to construct a new four-lane, high-level, highway bridge and approaches in the vicinity and to close the existing bridge for highway use. The lower deck will continue to be used by the Toledo, Peoria and Western Railroad.
