Abstract

A review of trends and issues impacting on Iowa's future, including population trends, rural/urban migration, employment trends/economic forecasts, youth exodus/brain-drain, educational attainment and other factors that affect community livability; A framework: for defining the "Livability Mix" whicl1 is unique for the State of Iowa, including a discussion of the ways in which it is linked to life satisfaction, community well being and the attraction and retention of Iowa's citizens. A review of model community development practices found in the public, non-profit and private sectors that could be used to promote the livability of Iowa's communities.
