Abstract
This paper identifies considerations in the planning and operating of transportation system, for older Americans and public systems in rural areas. It identifies an approach to transportation planning and number of elements related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of that system. The paper draws upon dial-a-ride literature and experiences, the elderly and handicapped transportation literature, and experiences with special rural transportation systems in the mid-western states. The paper is intended to provide a basic set of considerations, questions, knowledge and expectations about elderly and rural transportation systems.
