Abstract

The City of Burlington, Iowa, in conjunction with the traffic engineering firm of George L. Crawford and Associates, Inc., recently completed a comprehensive study of traffic movements in the central business district. The primary objective of this project was to determine measures for improving traffic circulation through a detailed evaluation of the downtown signal system. Federal Highway Safety Funds, made available through the Iowa State Highway Commission, were used to finance this project. It is anticipated that the recommendations emanating from this study will measurably improve traffic safety.
