Abstract
Area XV constitutes one of 16 planning regions in Iowa. Located in the southeastern part of the state, this rural ten-county area includes: Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, Wapello and Wayne Counties. The Area XV Regional Planning Commission provides planning services for the region and acts as the area's clearinghouse for A-95 review purposes. The regional transit planning process is intended to facilitate the integration of existing and proposed transit programs into area-wide systems in order to help achieve the state transportation goal of assuring adequate, safe and efficient transportation services for the public. Implementation of the five-year programs proposed in the 1977 Area XV Regional Transit Development Program (RTDP) and the RTDP's prepared by the other 15 state planning regions will assist in realizing this goal and begin to bring all transit operations into compliance with the State Transit Plan.
