Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to: 1. Study the effects of different aggregates, both limestones and gravels, in their influence on the amount of asphalt that is extractable from a mix. 2. Determine if time and temperature of the asphalt in contact with the aggregate has an influence on the amount of extractable asphalt. 3. Study the effect of surface area variations in relation to asphalt contents. 4. Determine if a correlation exists between extraction results and quality tests of the aggregates. 5. Identify as well as possible the causes for extraction variations.
