Iowa’s courts and legal system have moved up the ranks
to become the third fairest in the nation. The state ranked
fifth last year.
Harris Interactive survey for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
polled 928 corporate attorneys in companies with annual
revenues of at least $100 million and asked them to grade
the state courts.
were graded on treatment of class action suits, punitive
damages, timeliness of summary judgment/dismissal, discovery,
scientific and technical evidence, judges’ impartiality
and competence, and juries’ fairness and predictability.
states took the majority of top scores, with Nebraska, South
Dakota and Indiana also ranking in the top five. Delaware
was the number-one state in the nation for fairness.
