Abstract
From Cabin to Capital originally appeared in 1966 in response to numerous requests from teachers, librarians, students, historical groups, and other educational and lay organizations for information about Iowa's Capital City. With this edition, the word "City" has been added to the title. The book attempts to show how the settlement at the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers grew from the first log cabin erected at the military post, Fort Des Moines No. 2, to Iowa's largest city and its capital.
