Abstract
The North Raccoon River originates near Leverett, Iowa in northern Buena Vista County and flows approximately 175 miles in a southeasterly direction to its confluence with the South Raccoon River near Van Meter, Iowa. At the junction of these rivers the drainage area of the North Raccoon River is approximately 2,200 square miles. The combined rivers form the Raccoon River which flows another 30-35 miles and discharges into the Des Moines River at Des Moines, Iowa.
