Abstract
Tile spacing experiments have been conducted on the Southern Iowa Experimental Farm since 1950. The criterion for measuring drainage response has been the yields of corn on field plots where the area sampled was approximately 0.01 acre. These experiments were intended to represent field conditions. It is recognized, however, that these fi eld experiments do not exactly duplicate field conditions. Since all plots were planted and harvested at the same time, no credit was given to the d rained plots for potential earlier planting and crop salvage in case of extremely wet harvesting conditions.
