Abstract

This booklet has been prepared to assist the physicians and nurses caring for newborn infants in the State of Iowa. The items discussed were determined on the basis of need (hospital survey) and are discussed from the standpoint of the ability of the individual hospitals (any size) to render the care indicated. We feel that a reasonable adherence to the guidelines for neonatal care will insure an adequate standard of care for all infants in the State of Iowa. These guidelines are presented with no associated regulatory authority. Since the physicians and nurses practicing in Iowa hospitals are all health care professionals, we do not feel that regulatory measures are required to insure adequate care.
