Abstract
Reading is undoubtedly t he most important of the so-called tool subjects. To those who are skilled in reading are opened the vast treasures of the printed page: the current news and thought in the daily newspapers and in periodicals, the vast body of technical and social knowledge, and the pleasure and inspiration of the world's great literature. The school that has trained its children in skillful reading and in an abiding interest in good books has gone far toward making educated citizens.
