Abstract
The development of the presidential nominating process seems to have moved slowly and gradually toward certain changes. One is the regularization of the nominating process, placing it more out in the open. The other involves a broadening of the base of participation in the process. A review of history will show us that the convention system had its beginnings in this movement.
