Abstract
The report is not an attempt to predict the future of the prison population in Iowa. Instead, it is meant to provide an indication of the direction the prison population will likely move under current laws, policies and procedures. As these are modified, different results can be anticipated in future forecasts, but it is important to note that it can take several years for legislative changes to have an effect and to be reflected in the data. It is possible that legislative modifications enacted in the recent past are not accounted for in current projections.
