Abstract
Thoughts about suicide are often short-lived. A safe home environment can buy you, or a person you’re concerned about, time to get help. Safely storing things that can be used to harm oneself, such as firearms and medications, or removing them from your home — even temporarily — can save lives. Most suicides occur in the home and involve firearms — by far the most common and lethal of the means used in suicides. Others may involve household objects or substances used in a harmful way.
