Abstract
Oral disease creates a significant burden in the United States and across the world. Worldwide, 3.9 billion people are impacted by oral disease, and 35% of the world’s population suffers from untreated decay in their permanent teeth. In the United States, 14% of 2-8 year old children have untreated decay in their primary (baby) teeth and 8% of 9-11 year old children suffer from untreated decay in their permanent teeth.
