Abstract
In the unlikely event of an accident at a fixed nuclear power station or in an accident in the use of, or in the transportation of radioactive material, some radioactive material could be released to the atmosphere. In order to evaluate the hazards to people, livestock, and growing plants, a system for gathering and analyzing information, and eliminating danger areas must be established. One of the most significant parts of this system is the use of Civil Defense radiation detection equipment by police, fire, and other emergency workers to detect the presence of radioactive material. Police, fire, and other emergency workers must be well trained to be able to protect themselves and the citizens in their communities from the hazards of radioactive material.
