Abstract
In the past, most government purchasing decisions were based on only one factor-purchase price. This has frequently resulted in the purchase of products that are inexpensive to buy, but costly to operate. Life cycle costing is a method by which the estimated cost of ownership is considered when making a purchasing decision. This booklet emphasizes the cost of energy because generally there is no reliable data on the cost of maintenance for different pieces of equipment.
