Auditor of State Mary Mosiman today released an audit report on Butler County, Iowa. The County had local tax revenue of $25,273,997 for the year ended June 30, 2016, which included $2,157,491 in tax credits from the state. The County forwarded $18,051,030 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the County. The County retained $7,222,967 of the local tax revenue to finance County operations, a 4.3% increase over the prior year. Other revenues included charges for service of $1,373,901, operating grants, contributions and restricted interest of $4,406,739 capital grants, contributions and restricted interest of $1,232,403, local option sales tax of $417,764, unrestricted investment earnings of $173,263 and other general revenues of $322,153. Expenses for County operations for the year ended June 30, 2016 totaled $13,970,942, a 65.0% decrease from the prior year. Expenses included $6,647,476 for roads and transportation, $2,074,331 for public safety and legal services, and $1,557,156 for administrative services. The significant decrease in revenues and expenses is due primarily to County Social Services now being reported in an Agency Fund.
