Abstract
Data capable of estimating wildlife abundance are often difficult, expensive, and time consuming to collect, particularly for rare or elusive species, or species that exist across large geographic areas. Standardized sampling methods, however, may provide consistent indices of populations over time. Reliable indices are important for understanding population trends and the factors affecting populations, including environmental conditions.
