Abstract

Residents, businesses, school districts, and agriculture interests among others utilize the Iowa 44 corridor between the three areas of central Guthrie County, central Dallas County, and the Des Moines metropolitan area to access employment and recreational opportunities, as well as retail services. With its use as a primary transportation link for these purposes, many travelers of Iowa 44 have sought to improve the safety and the efficiency of the corridor while maintaining the agricultural integrity of the surrounding area. In order to study this roadway corridor in detail, a coalition of interested and vested parties formed the Iowa 44 Corridor Partnership to complete a coordinated transportation and land use plan for Iowa 44 from 86th Street in the City of Johnston to the eastern Audubon County line.
