Abstract

The basic accident data system presently in use was implemented in January, 1977. Iowa contracted with the consulting firm of Wilbur Smith and Associates to develop and implement an Accident Location and Analysis System (ALAS). A link-node accident location system was adopted and basic analysis programs were developed. Iowa's roadway inventory system, referred to as the Base Record Inventory System, was developed in the 1960's. The Base Record covers over 112,000 miles of public roads and streets.
