Abstract

The Iowa Coal Project was funded by the Iowa Legislature, for $3 million over a three year period beginning in May of 1974. The major thrust of the project was to research Iowa coal and determine courses of action that could make the State of Iowa more energy self-sufficient through greater use of its own reserves. The state has considerable coal reserves and up until the 1940's had supported an active coal industry.
