Abstract
Six of the papers discuss different areas of plant pathology in relation to intensive and extensive production of corn, soybeans, and oats-crops traditionally important in the Corn Belt. The symposium was organized, in general, around the double dichotomy of introduced (soybeans and oats) versus indigenous (corn) crops, and of residual pathogens (pathogens that perpetuate themselves within the Corn Belt) versus continental pathogens.
