Abstract
The purpose of this publication is to assist Iowa schools as they work to meet their own needs in the area of staff development as well as helping them to comply with state standards. Excellence in education and improvement in student achievement can only be accomplished by the development of a comprehensive plan for school improvement. Staff development is a critical component of a school improvement plan. Such a plan must be developed with meaningful involvement of the people affected. Staff development must call for a substantial commitment of time, which also translates into a significant commitment of resources.
