Abstract

June and July of 1975 field surveys will be conducted at all commercial dock locations within Iowa. surveys will also be conducted at all terminals where truck-trailers are loaded on railroad flat cars for transport (TOFC terminals). The purpose of these surveys is to obtain extensive data on the movement of freight through each terminal. Data regarding total shipments by commodity, final origins and destinations of freight movements, and any proposed expansions of facilities will be collected. There are approximately 80 commercial docks in Iowa located along the shores of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. TOFC terminals number approximately 60, and are scattered across the state and located primarily near the larger communities. The following pages outline the methods and procedures for the collection of field data at each location.
