Abstract

The Engineering Extension Department of Iowa State University was interested in working with an Iowa community to develop a comprehensive city plan that would serve as an example to other Iowa towns and cities that would encourage them to develop similar plans. Mason City expressed an interest in this project and they were selected to receive assistance. Before a plan can be developed, a civic survey needs to be done first. A civic survey is the getting together of available data on the local conditions that affect community growth and development. It includes the collection, compilation, and presentation of all information relative to the physical, social, economic, and financial conditions of any municipality. The results of this survey for Mason City are in this report.
