Abstract

This report comprises the results of Second-order Traverse executed in Linn County, Iowa, under various emergency agencies and projects set up for the purpose of furnishing employment to engineers and semi-professional personnel. All operations have been executed under U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey specifications. Obviously, many difficulties were encountered due to shifting and part-time employment periods, and to lack of high-grade equipment. Notwithstanding these drawbacks, results to specifications have been demanded and secured, although a revision of specifications caused a certain amount of extra work. Permanency of monument location has been sought for, but in some instances has been difficult to secure due to natural conditions combined with traverse limitations. In some cases monuments were placed closer than desirable to traveled ways, or in other less protected locations due to consideration of measurement and sight facilities. Some monuments have been buried under ground when they were necessarily placed within the limits of cultivated fields. Unless otherwise stated all monuments are concrete,-with brass caps.
