Abstract
This survey was initiated as a pilot project to provide a measure of the nature and extent of job vacancies in Iowa manufacturing establishments. An immediate and critical need for occupational employment data emerged with t he devel�opment of Iowa's Area Vocational Schools and Communi ty Colleges. Program and curriculum planners at the state and local level were handicapped by a lack of current data in reaching decisions on such critical questions.
