Abstract
Iowa's teachers have played a major role in the continuing quest for improved educational quality for the benefit of Iowa's young people. Today's teachers must deal with responsible citizenship in an "information age" democracy, with economic interdependence in an expanding global economy, and with the desire for personal and professional fulfillment in an increasingly complex culture. The preparation of teachers and their continuing participation and professional growth will make a profound difference in the way citizens consider, and respond to, contemporary issues.
