Abstract
Approximately 70~ of the water used by residents of Madison County comes from ground-water sources. It is estimated that the use of ground water in the county currently approaches .66 billion gallons per year. For comparison, this amount would provide each resident with 156 gallons of water a day during the year. These high per capita figures reflect the greater demands of livestock and commercial uses. The users of ground water in the county draw their supplies from several different geologic sources.
