Abstract
Approximately 90% of the residents of Hamilton County rely on groundwater as the source of their drinking water. It is estimated that the use of groundwater in the county currently approaches 1.0 billion gallons per year. For comparison, this amount would provide each resident with 146 gallons of water a day during the year. Actually, few if any households use this much water, and the rather large annual per capita use reflects the greater water requirements of the county's industries, agribusinesses and municipalities. The users of groundwater in the county draw their supplies from several different geologic sources.
