Abstract

Only one percent of the total water used in Des Moines County is drawn from ground water sources. However, the use of ground water in the county currently approaches one billion gallons per year. For comparison, this amount would provide each county resident with about 62 gallons of water a day during a year. The county's total water demand exceeds 46 billion gallons per year, or a daily per capita demand of 2,847 gallons.
