Abstract
The Midcontinent Rift (MCR) Study is one of several studies sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey and state geological surveys through the Midcontinent Strategic and Critical Minerals Program. The study has several parts, including an examination of clastic rocks associated with the MCR, both from surface exposures in the Lake Superior region and from cores and cutting samples from the subcrop belt to the southwest of Lake Superior. In the fall of 1985 and Spring of 1986 geologists from the Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas geological surveys examined the exposures and subsurface samples in the respective state repositories.
