Abstract
In "Technical Paper 2" published In 1930 we reviewed in a general way the conditions that raced the coal producing industry not only in Iowa and the United States but over the world in general. Indeed the economic situation of the bituminous miner in England and Wales who was largely dependent upon the shipping industries that were rapidly turning to oil, had become acute even before the world financial depression. The situation In Iowa reflects that of the country as whole. The natural gas lines that were approaching our borders in 1930 are now spreading a net over the state.
