Abstract

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO’s) AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design software is based on the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) methodology and is a comprehensive pavement design software solution in use by a number of state departments of transportation (DOTs). Since its 2013 branding, the software has continued to be modified and improved to incorporate new research and an enhanced quality of data inputs. This synthesis covers the changes to the Pavement ME Design software as specifically related to concrete pavements. While the changes to the concrete models are minimal as compared to the asphalt models, the changes still have an impact on the results in using the software to design concrete pavements. This synthesis covers these changes and also compares Pavement ME Design to the previous empirical AASHTO pavement design methods. Readers will gain a better knowledge of the Pavement ME Design software, the changes with the different versions, and the future plans for changes.
