Abstract
Purpose and Philosophy. The University of Iowa is committed to increasing the number of advanced degree holders among persons from nontraditional backgrounds. The Office of Special Support Services was created to help the culturally different and the economically and educationally disadvantaged throughout their academic careers at Iowa. We believe that graduate students admitted to the University can succeed with diligent effort and with good counseling and academic support. The Special Support Services professional staff is dedicated to providing that counseling and support.
