Abstract

This handbook, the third in the series of elementary courses of study bulletins for the state, are the reports of the subcommittees on Spelling and Handwriting. Both committees in developing their material have availed themselves of the abundance of reliable research data accessible in the respective fields and have prepared recommendations that are in accord with the findings of this research. In both instances it is recommended that teachers adhere carefully to the directions to teachers provided in the manual of the Handwriting system or Spelling system that has been adopted for basic use in their schools. It \Vi1l be found that there is no conflict between the provision of these courses and the basic principles which constitute good instruction in either area as found in the manuals accompanying commercially published materials in each field.
