Abstract

There are two aspects of the reservoir project that should be reported: (1) methodology of the preliminary investigation by the U.S. Corps of Engineers and (2) geologic considerations of the project. The first deals with the philosophy of the Corps' preliminary studies as interpreted by this writer and the second deals with factual information collected for this project. Geology plays a substantial role in the planning, design, and operation of the proposed Ames Reservoir project. The several extensive movements of glaciers across this site, including the most recent Wisconsin glaciation, has left behind a rather heterogeneous landscape and depositional pattern of glacial till and other outwash materials on the underlying bedrock formations.
