Abstract

Yellow perch and walleye are major sport fish species in Spirit Lake usually ranking second and third in the numerical harvest. Only black bullhead are caught in greater numbers, ranking first in 22 of the 28 years (1946-73) surveys were conducted. A 1975 telephone survey of Iowa anglers revealed the catch by resident fishermen in the Northwest District, who caught one or more fish, was comprised of 14% yellow perch and 4% walleye.
