Abstract

The purpose of this report is to inform our understanding of youth health disparities in Iowa using data from the Iowa Youth Survey (IYS) years 2014, 2016, and 2018. The key questions are: 1. What statewide health disparities exist by gender? 2. What statewide health disparities exist by race/ethnicity? 3. For significant existing health disparities, what is the trend from 2014-2018? The focus of this report is on Mental Health Status among youth. These analyses will be used to describe existing and persistent mental health disparities in Iowa youth. This understanding can drive data-informed planning, outreach and evaluation to reduce health disparities and achieve health equity for Iowa youth through public health initiatives, health services, and education.
