Abstract
This handbook was created specifically for local community officials looking for ways to minimize the impact of future disasters, using FEMA Publication 317, Property Acquisition Handbook for Local Communities, and HMGP Program Guidance. This handbook is a "how to" guide to lead you through one specific hazard mitigation option known as property acquisition (formerly known as "buyout"). As you go through this handbook, you may have additional questions or require technical assistance. Please contact your State Hazard Mitigation Staff for additional information or assistance.
