Abstract
Parents needing a few hours of child care bartered informally with friends, relatives or neighbors. In more recent times, social and economic conditions have resulted in an increase of women in the work force, including increasingly larger numbers of mothers of children under six years of age. There is an emerging need for a variety of child care options to reflect the differing values and needs of Iowa's families.
